Sun lovin’
It’s around this time of year that I tend to start craving a little sunshine. Going somewhere warm for a week or so is pretty much exactly what the doctor ordered, assuming I’m the doctor in question. Don’t get me wrong. I like autumn and winter. There’s something comforting about the cold, short days and the dark nights. Especially when you’re inside, nice and warm, looking out. The fire cracking in the corner and a steaming mug of hot chocolate in your hands. OK, that’s sounding more like a Marks & Spencer’s TV ad, but it’s a nice image.
Generally, holiday wise I’m not really the type of person that wants to go away somewhere and do nothing. I tend to prefer city breaks, or somewhere I can at least explore or travel around a bit. However, once a year (right about now) I do have this sudden urge to go somewhere warm hot and do nothing but lie on a beach with a book and some music. Or possibly in a hammock, looking out to the ocean. Some time to forget about all the work nonsense going on, and not having to think about all the Christmas shopping that needs done would be idea.
Naturally this is the more inopportune time of the year to be considering something like this for a number of reasons. Not least of which is costs involved and typically the run up to Christmas is a particularly tight period money wise, while being one of the seasons of the year when you need to spend the most cash. This year there’s also work related reasons that make it difficult to get away including moving office, a release due in about 3 weeks, attempting to hire at least one new member of staff and the works Christmas night out. All go.
Trying to ignore the urge to get away is also not helped by friends going off for breaks to places like Rome, or other folk like Colin rubbing in how warn it currently is in Australia. And then there’s Stef, trying to convince me to goto Lanzarote. Curses. Time to start selling everything I can on eBay … anyone want to buy a DVD player?
