2 minute read

The photo a day project that was started at the beginning of June may look like it died a death, and it’s true that it’s hardly a photo every single day, since it’s been a few weeks since I posted one.  But honestly, I’m missing not posting a photo.  While the numbers have dropped off, there are still a few that have (more or less) managed to keep it going, soldiering on as it were.

I have to admit that I actually miss not putting up a photo a day, and on any given day I see numerous opportunities for a great (in my mind) photo, but frequently these pass to quickly to allow me to get my camera out, turned on, pointed in the right direction, fiddled to set the right setting, framing the right scene then pressing the button a few times in the hope of getting a non-blurry one somewhere in the set.

Today’s happened already … three times.  First was on the bus on the way into the office.  Sitting at the traffic lights I looked over to my right and there was a truck in the lane next to us.  At this time in the morning it was pretty dark, but the sun was beginning to light up the sky, and you could the sky perfectly in the wing mirror of the truck.  It was as if the wing mirror were a LCD display showing a beautiful sky.  Would have made a good shot.

The second one was the construction of the new M74 extension (don’t get me started on that right now).  Again dark, with the sky beginning to light up in the background.  There was a large digger silhouetted against the sky, with a large chimney in the background spewing out smoke.  This may not sound very pretty, but it would have made a nice picture … had I had a camera at the ready.

The third was as I was just about to enter the office building, and was a typical city centre scene.  Just some office buildings against a clear dark dark blue sky, with a crescent moon visible between two of the buildings.  Admittedly I wouldn’t have needed Linford Christie speed to get my camera out to catch this shot, however not actually carrying my camera means it would taken slightly longer than I had available.

Consider this a lesson learnt.  I do miss taking a photo a day, even if (at times) it was a right royal pain in the rear end; hunting round the flat at 11:45pm trying desperately to take a photo before the clock proclaimed that the following day had arrived and I had failed.  For this second go at photo a day idea I’m not going to stress out about it.  It will probably not end up being a photo a day, but with the number of photos opportunities available a day there should be one frequently.  If nothing happens one day I’ll just accept that .. and not just take a crappy photo to meet a deadline.  I have enough deadline set by other people without adding some of my own.

So … as from tomorrow, photos should start appearing again.
